FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I attend Career Development Week during work hours?

Many UC Davis employees are eligible for professional development release time through their bargaining unit contract or personnel policy. Career Development Week sessions are a great way to put that time to use.

How do I find out what I am eligible for?

Release time provisions vary by bargaining unit and policy. Review the UC Davis HR release time eligibility and unit-specific provisions to see what applies to you.

How do I ask my supervisor?

Start the conversation early. Planning ahead gives your supervisor time to balance department needs and makes it easier to say yes. Use the Funding and/or Release Time Request for Professional Development form from Learning and Organizational Development to guide the discussion and document your request.

Tips for a successful conversation:

  • Choose the sessions you plan to attend and note their dates and times.
  • Share how the learning connects to your current role or career goals.
  • Offer ideas for how your work will be covered during your time away.
  • Bring what you learned back to your team after the event.

Are you a supervisor?

You play a key role in helping employees pursue training, workshops, conferences, and other learning opportunities. Understanding release time provisions and encouraging advance planning can strengthen team capabilities and build a culture of continuous learning.

Where do I park for the Monday event at Aggie Square?

Park in the Aggie Square Garage. The event is at 4480 2nd Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95817.

How do I get to the garage?

From Stockton Boulevard, turn east onto 3rd Avenue and keep going until the road dead-ends. Turn left into the garage. After you park, walk through the garage toward the glass buildings and the 300 Aggie Square entrance. Please do not park in the open gravel lots. Those are not event parking.

What will parking cost?

  • UC Davis and UC Davis Health employees: Use the HonkMobile app to get the discounted affiliate rate. A daily permit is $5.50 for the C Zone (students and employees) or $6.60 for the A Zone (employees only). Create your account with your UC Davis or UC Davis Health email.
  • Event parking in Honk (Zone ASGGA): This is $20 Monday through Friday before 5 p.m. and $5 after 5 p.m.
  • Guests without a UC Davis affiliation: Pull a ticket at the entrance. The rate is $2 for every 15 minutes, with a $20 daily maximum. Keep your ticket, because you need it to exit.

Tips before you arrive

  • Buy in Honk before you arrive. Choose Zone ID ASG for the affiliate daily rate, or buy a daily permit online in HonkMobile. You will be asked to sign in with your CAS login.
  • Do not pull a ticket if you bought a permit in Honk. Doing so charges you the visitor rate. Use the barcode from the app or your email to enter and exit. A screenshot with your phone brightness turned up scans more easily.
  • Check your permit. Monthly and daily permits for the Davis campus or UC Davis Health lots do not work in this garage, and Aggie Square Garage permits do not work in UC Davis Health lots.
  • A disabled placard or plate still requires a permit to enter the garage and park in a disabled space.
  • If affiliate permits are sold out, you can buy a daily permit in the garage at the $20 non-affiliate rate. You can also buy a permit in a nearby Sacramento campus lot (lots 12, 17, and 30).

Prefer not to drive?

The nearest Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) light rail stations are 39th Street and 48th Street on the Gold Line. The UC Davis Med-Transit shuttle runs from the 39th Street Station to the UC Davis Health campus, including the Aggie Square area.
