UC Health and Anthem Blue Cross Reach Preliminary Agreement

UC Health has reached a preliminary four-year agreement with Anthem Blue Cross to allow patients continued access to UC physicians, hospitals and clinics through Anthem’s provider network.

Anthem did not move patients away from UC Davis Health, so HMO patients can continue their care. Any work related to the potential contract termination can now end.

We are grateful that there will not be disruption for patients, and they can continue receiving care from the physicians, hospitals and clinics of their choice, as Anthem and UC Health finalize the details in the coming weeks.

We are disappointed that the extended negotiations may have caused uncertainty and worry for our patients, but we are glad they can continue to access UC care without interruption.

UC/Anthem Contract Termination: No Affect to UC Employees

UC/Anthem contract termination does not affect UC employee/retiree medical plans.

Anthem Blue Cross has terminated its agreement with UC Health, including UC Davis Health. If a new agreement is not in place by February 29, 2024, UC Davis Health will be considered out-of-network for (non-UC) Anthem Blue Cross members beginning March 1, 2024.

Per UC Davis Health: This termination does not affect the in-network availability of UC Health facilities and providers for UC employees, UC students with UC SHIP coverage, UC medical residents and fellows in the PPO plan or UC retirees. Their health plans are governed by separate UC-Anthem agreements.
