Beware of Retirement Scams

UC employees and retirees have recently reported suspicious communications (emails, flyers, invitations, phone calls) from individuals claiming to offer UC retirement counseling.

Know the Warning Signs

UC counselors and advisers will never contact you unexpectedly to:

  • Schedule an appointment you didn't request.
  • Ask for your personal or financial information.
  • Pressure you to make changes to your retirement benefits or investments.

If you receive a suspicious email, phone call or invitation, do not engage. Contact HR Employee Benefits at [email protected] before responding or scheduling an appointment.

  • Remember that UC contracts exclusively with Fidelity Investments to provide financial education and guidance at no cost to employees and retirees. You may receive legitimate emails from the UC Retirement System with a Fidelity Investments email address announcing webinars or other retirement planning resources.
  • To speak with a UC-dedicated workplace financial consultant, call 800-558-9182, Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT). Schedule an appointment through Fidelity's online appointment scheduler for UC employees and retirees.

Working with an Outside Financial Adviser?

If you choose to work with a non-UC investment adviser, do your research before sharing personal or financial information. Ask for the adviser's Form ADV, which provides information about their qualifications, business practices, disciplinary history and regulatory registrations.
